Below is a side diary on the fixing of a sefer torah from Essex that I am working on. The first task involved rolling back to Bereshit and dealing with loose discs on the atsey chayim.

Both top and bottom very completely loose. First stage is to use a synthetic wood glue and push them back against the handles. Then packing the gap between the shaft and the inside of the disc with glued card. Then wood filler to close over the gaps and keep it steady, smoothed down and sanded.
