More repairs

Probably the oddest repair I have ever undertaken involved a misadventure with a canine. The dog literally ate the bat-mitsvah girl's homework as she practiced at home from her family Torah. However it gave me a real opportunity to test my skills in restoration and writing in the style of another sofer.

Below is a slightly more traditional fixing project which shows ink lifting on the section of the Torah relating to the creation story. I think there is quite a nice thought behind the idea of fixing creation and sometimes when I look at the sorry state of the world it would be really nice if we could do that for real. Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) is a Jewish objective that is often overlooked in the 'hurly burly' of the modern world.
Sifrey Torah are a lot tougher than people think, but it is quite right to treate them with care and respect. But occasionally there can be accidents. Click below to see one such accident where the Torah ripped though, needing extensive repairs.
