Sefer Tagin Fragments from the Cairo Genizah

Sefer Tagin Fragments from the Cairo Genizah

As a foundational element of part of my PhD studies, I had the good fortune to make some new discoveries in the Cairo Genizah.  Adding these to known documentation  I was able to produce an academic monograph with the support of the Cambridge Genizah Unit (particularly Dr. Ben Outhwaite). This has then been published by Brill. I'm now a published - rather than self-published author through my Kulmus Publishing imprint. Which is very nice.

In Sefer Tagin Fragments from the Cairo Genizah, I transcribe and recreates fragments of arguably the earliest found manuscript of the manual for sofrim (scribes) concerning the decorative tagin (tittles) and 'strange' letter forms that adorn certain words in the Torah. Comparing these found fragments against other core and secondary sources of Sefer Tagin (including several pages of a new secondary source),  try to establish the most likely readings to assist the reconstruction of the fragments and shed light on the original intention of the author of Sefer Tagin.

The book is for anyone interested in Jewish scribal practice and Jewish halakha (law), Hebrew manuscripts and the Hebrew script, findings from the Cairo Genizah and general Torah/Bible studies. It is available from various booksellers but the sources is https://brill.com/view/title/56898.

Above is the front and back covers of the title. Below is an example low resolution page showing one of the reconstruction of some of the found fragments.

Since publication has passed and I cannot amend further, I have produced an errata sheet with a list of known errors and typos in my book to ensure accuracy for readers. As I have continued my researches I have also made further discoveries which has also impacted on contents. Should you find any errors, please contact me and I will update this list.
