Some siyyumim

Some example siyyumim - Torah completion ceremonies

Over the years I've take place in a number of special siyyumim in different communities and met lots of lovely people who I was able to help participate in the mitsvah of writing a Sefer Torah. This is definitely one of the perks of the job. Often they have dignitaries and press people present or they video the event/take photos and so below are some examples of the sorts of coverage.

Bet Tikvah - Barkingside, Essex

An article from the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of Liberal Judaism today magazine covering the Bet Tikvah (Barkingside) siyyum hatorah

Next to me is the Rabbi completing the last letter of the restored Sefer Torah.  This one was purchased from e-bay (I would caution against this unless you have excellent guidance) and was firtunately in very good condition.   Everyone had a wonderful time celebrating the 'previously loved' Torah (which is apparently how people refer to second hand nowadays.

The article shows how they obtained the Torah.

Bournemouth Reform Synagogue

A few scenes from a Siyyum haTorah at Bournemouth Reform Synagogue  (just over two minutes) - completing the 613th commandment. Sadly quite an old video, so very low resolution - but still worth a watch. Nice tekiah g'dolah at the end.
Birmingham siyyum

Below is an article from the Nov/Dec 2005 issue of Liberal Judaism today magazine covering the Birmingham siyyum hatorah. Quite a while back so has my old website address in the article.   It's now sofer.co.uk as you know since you're here! It also mentions me as servicing the progressive community. I do indeed and also Masorti and also Orthodox communities as required.
Edinburgh - the piper siyyum

This was really exciting and involved quite a story including being piped in with the Torah - so much so that it comprises two of my diary entries, diary 26 and diary 27. Below a lovely photo with a young man who had only just become bar-mitsvah and so became one of the youngest to participate in the mitsvah. It was used in the Edinburgh News coverage.

To come - links to photos from the Alexander Torah siyyum and others. In the meantime more on the Alexander can be found here.
